Mari Nukii and Ryuichi Sugiyama, Post-Revolutionary Iranian Cinema and Society, Organization for Islamic Area Studies at Waseda University (OIAS), 2014 (Research Grant Program)

update:December 5, 2014

The book was produced by the project “Interdisciplinary Research on Post-Revolutionary Iranian Cinema and Society: Culture of Entertainment and Resistance under the Authoritarian Regime” (Project Representative: Ms. Mari Nukii) which had been awarded grant by Research Grant Program 2012.

The Iranian society, more than 30 years after its Islamic Revolution, is considered to be undergoing a period of rapid change. The project searches into the reality of the changes, especially of those related to the environment surrounding Iranian cinema, from the viewpoints of various disciplines such as economics, history, sociology and gender studies.

The result of the project was presented by its members at a public symposium titled “Post-Revolutionary Iranian Cinema and Society” held at Waseda University, Tokyo on July 5th, and was further compiled and published. With much affection towards Iranian cinema, the interdisciplinary team, through this unique book, presents multiple viewpoints which can be helpful in drawing a comprehensive picture of the society in Iran.
