Policy briefs: “Migrant Children’s Education in Thailand” for Samut Sakorn Province in Thailand and “Multiculturalism in practice in Yokohama” for Yokohama City in Japan now available (International Grant Program)

update:January 16, 2015

The policy briefs developed by the members of the project “Role of Local Governments' Policies in Creating Multicultural Society: Review of Policy and Practices to Manage / Support Migrants in Municipality / Provincial Level in Thailand and Japan” (Project Representative: Ms. Kyoko Kusakabe) are now available. The project received grant from the International Grant Program of the Toyota Foundation in 2013.

Focusing on the social and cultural aspect of migration, the project carefully traced how the migrants build their lives in Samut Sakorn Provinces in Thailand and in Yokohama City in Japan. Within the wider framework of national level policies, the project gave special attention to the efforts and policy practices on migration at the provincial/ municipal government level.

The project successfully involved local actors including government officials, leaders and staffs of the local schools and NGOs, private sectors. After a number of site visits, workshops and discussions among the team members and with local actors during the project period, the projects members in Yokohama and in Thailand summarized and presented their policy briefs to their local governments.
