The recipe book of traditional edible plants in Southeast Asia “Ulam: Regenerative Edible Flora from Southeast Asia” now available online

The book titled “Ulam: Regenerative Edible Flora from Southeast Asiaこのリンクは別ウィンドウで開きます” which is full of recipe using “ulam”––edible plants in Malay–– is published from the project called “The "Ulam School": A Food Education Transborders' Network to Foster Solidarity and Edible Flora Preservation for Sustainable and Healthy Lifestyle Among Neighboring Countriesこのリンクは別ウィンドウで開きます”, headed by Prof. Eric Olmedo of Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. 

The book is available as ebook and PDF on the websiteこのリンクは別ウィンドウで開きます, as well as the edible plants database of the targeted three countries and some movies of the project. 
The Ulam School project intends to alleviate the impact of non-communicable diseases on public health in Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia, as a start, through food education. Food education will materialize at first as this online knowledge platform. A second phase will see the setup of a physical school situated in Malaysia.
The Ulam school project comprises a social integration aspect as it engages actively with ethnic minorities in Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam; this project shall contribute to lessen their social marginalization, as their role of edible flora’s gatekeepers will be enhanced through visible knowledge transmission to the general public.

The Ulam School project aims at creating public awareness on the benefits of eating wild greens while leveraging on connectivity and digital technologies in order to engage younger generations. Free access to knowledge, user-friendliness and, in the mid-term, multi-lingual features of the Ulam School portal shall enable a sense of proximity and rapid dissemination, ultimately producing a health-conscious and nature-caring minded new generation of consumers.
